Mt Kaimon is a remarkable and imposing symbol of the southernmost tip of Satsuma Peninsula. It is also called 'Satsuma Fuji' because of its beautiful shape rising out of the sea making it a landmark among seamen.
Historically, Mt Kaimon was the last point that many Kamikaze soldiers saw from motherland Japan after taking off from Chiran Kamikaze airfield.
Standing at an impressive 922 meters above sea level, it has a unique volcanic structure of double configurations being both a bell shape and bedding.
The mountain trails are well maintained and make an easy and accessible trek the whole family can experience. The climb takes approximately three hours to reach the summit of Mt Kaimon. From the top of the mountain, take in the excellent 360 degree panoramic views looking over Tanegashima and Yakushima Islands, Cape Sata and Lake Ikeda. |
